Are you moving to a new home and looking to have some work completed to make your new place into something really special? Or maybe you are moving soon and want to address some of the home repair projects you’ve been putting off? It’s probably time to consider calling in a local Memphis contractor to tackle these home renovation projects for you so you can move forward with your life.
Whether you are doing something simple at your house like changing out some bath fixtures or have a more elaborate project in mind like removing walls or installing new granite countertops in your kitchen, finding someone to help you with your projects can be hard if you don’t know where to look. Here are some top places to ask around for a great contractor in Memphis.
Tips for Finding a Memphis Contractor
- Ask Around your Personal Network. Ask your neighbors for contractors they know and have used before. Ask your real estate agent, insurance broker, co-workers, relatives, and friends for contractors they know of. Getting a referral from someone with first-hand experience hiring a contractor for the same type of work you want done to your home, is a great starting off point.
- Online Search. If you aren’t coming up with anyone after asking around or maybe you’ve called some of the referrals from your contacts above and no one is available, an online search can help you locate contractors specifically in your area. Many sites like Google and Angie’s List have ratings and reviews for contractors, too. After you reach someone by phone, you can add them to your list. If they aren’t the type of contractor you need, ask them if they know of anyone they can refer you too. We just did this recently when we wanted to find someone with an unusual home remodeling skill. When I phoned up a general contractor, the receptionist said their group didn’t work with homeowners specifically but she referred me to the handyman she had known for 30 years and had worked on her house for many of those. You never know where you might find someone great!
- Home Centers. Many of the big box hardware stores can be the middleman for your home projects. You simply buy the products you want through the store, and the store is in charge of hiring the crew or contractor to do the work you need. This can be a great option. Many times these contractors have been working with the store for a long time and are skilled and reliable at their craft.
As you can see, you can find contractors in many places. You simply need to do a bit of research until to find the right fit!
Meet With Your Contractors
After you have located a few contractors you like, ask them to come by and meet in person. Review some ideas with them to understand what they are skilled in performing. Get an estimate with their rates. And, ask the contractors for some referrals to help guide your decision. Sometimes you can even drive by and see the work they have done from the outside. If not, ask them to show you some pictures for references to your projects.
From here you just need to clear a path and let the crew get started!
