What Does “Broom Clean” Mean For Your Move-Out?

As you move out of the home you just sold, one of the final steps of the move out process is to make sure that home is “broom clean”. So, how clean is “broom clean” and what does “broom clean” mean for your move-out? Let’s take a closer look.

Why Do You Need to Clean the House you Sold?

Leaving the house reasonably clean is important. When a new owner has purchased the house, they aren’t expecting to move their belongings into a home that is visibly dirty and not picked up.

A good rule of thumb is to leave the house in a similar condition in which it was shown. Also, ask your real estate agent what the parameters are. The contract might have it listed specifics, especially if tasks like having the carpets professionally cleaned were part of the contract.

It’s also important that you remove all of your belongings when moving out. Do not forget the items in the attic, behind the shed, or in storage in the garage. Remember to check your freezer, the doors in the refrigerator, the drawer under the stove, and the pantry space under the stairs. All the nooks and crannies you used while living in the house should be cleared out for the new homeowners.

How Clean Does Your House Need To Be When Moving Out?

While a new homeowner will expect a home to be clean when they move in, clean enough can be sufficient. Vacuuming without mopping is fine, and wiping surfaces without ensuring everything is spotless is perfectly acceptable. New homeowners understand they will likely need to properly clean when they move in or hire a crew to come by after you have moved is commonplace.
