6 Things Real Estate Agents Wish Sellers Knew

Your real estate agent is your teammate through your home selling process. They want you to succeed and do well in your home-selling journey. One part of a successful sale is your relationship with your agent. To help maximize that relationship, I put together a list of 6 things real estate agents wish sellers knew.

Things Home Sellers Should Know, from their Agent

  1. Staging This is one of the top things to consider implementing when selling your home. Having a clean, uncluttered, well-taken care of home will often sell more quickly and stand out among the others in your neighborhood for sale. Taking this seriously and cleaning your home well, addressing any issues that need repairs, and moving out any clutter and personal items that can distract a buyer is highly beneficial to the sales process.
  2. One Agent As industry requirements move forward, you will have a contract to sign when you work with a real estate agent. Review this so you understand the process and also how long you are working together. Make sure to give the sales process time to function and proceed. Sales can take a bit longer in certain markets and with certain types of properties, but choosing an experienced agent and your home sale will progress well.
  3. Agent Guidance An experienced real estate agent will give you good advice to make your home sell as easily as possible. They are skilled and proficient at selling homes in your area. Experienced agents are familiar with how to make your home shine and how to price it appropriately for the market, area, and condition it’s in.
  4. Big Projects Avoid spending a lot of money on remodeling, at least without speaking with your agent first. Remodeling can actually waste money because you probably won’t get that remodeling cost back on your home sale. At least not dollar for dollar or if you are hiring out the remodeling work.
  5. Proper Pricing Your real estate agent will pull comparable home sales and listings in your area, and combine that with their local expertise to recommend the best price to offer your home. Selling your home in this manner will bring you the best results.
  6. Time While your home is priced right, staged well, and clean, the sales process still takes time. There will be showings, inspections, a contract, and negotiations. Understanding these points before you head into your home sale can make the process go more smoothly.

Selling your home and buying a new home can be an exciting time, but can also be a busy, stressful time. Do your research to choose an experienced professional real estate agent with skills in your neighborhood. The years they have spent learning what works and sells in your area will give you the assistance you need to make the right move.
