Making the front of your home look good, and with strong curb appeal, is one of the top considerations when staging a home to sell. Taking the time to spruce up the front of your home will be highly beneficial to the first impressions of home shoppers. Now you might be thinking…how can I make the front of my house look good?
Improve the Look of the Front of your Home
Making the front of your house look good to sell or as a new homeowner can be another line item on your To Do list. But it will be one of the top areas home buyers and neighbors will be looking at. A nice-looking front of the home will grab buyers’ attention on the MLS and in the photos, and also as they pull up to your house for showings.
How Can I Make the Front Of My House Look Prettier?
- Cleaning – Start by cleaning the front of your home. Sweep walkways, street gutters, and driveway areas. Pick up any debris, remove weeds, and toss old furniture, accessories, old yard lighting fixtures, and yard decorations.
- Landscaping – This is one area where your home can shine. Tend to any grass that needs upkeep, pull weeds regularly, prune bushes and trees as necessary, and refresh flower bed mulch.
- Powerwash – Clean walls, concrete, and walkways as necessary to keep them looking nice.
- Paint – Scrape and repaint any sections of the outside of your home that need refreshing. Do the windows need touch-ups? Also, consider a trendy front door color without being too bold.
- Windows – Make sure your windows are clean and unobscured. Leave blinds open during the day to offer an inviting display and allow natural light to shine in. Trim bushes away to create a welcoming presentation.
- Entryway or Porch – Switch out old hardware, doorbells, and flower pots. Liven up this area with a new doormat and fresh hanging or potted flowers.
- Lighting – Ensure bulbs are new in your light fixtures and that the lighting units are clean and free of bugs and cobwebs. Consider adding path or driveway lighting to highlight this space.
- Mailbox – Your mailbox shouldn’t be forgotten. Clean and repaint the mailbox or even replace it to revitalize this curb appeal focal point. Make sure any grass is trimmed around the base and the post looks nice as well.
Other Outdoor Improvements for your Home
This list above is an excellent curb appeal checklist to keep you busy. Now, consider a few other areas to make the front of your house really stand out.
- Gutters – These might get overlooked, but realize as a home seller, your buyers will expect this spot to be clean and freshly painted as well.
- Brickwork – Have any mortar that is missing or bricks that are severely damaged, repaired. Clean these sections as well and keep weeds or landscaping from harming this surface. If the foundation needs work, a specialist will need to step in.
- Yard and Garden Decor – When you are selling your home, keep decorations to a minimum with potted plants, rugs, and smart-looking furniture. Keep this space simple, but sophisticated. Update your house numbers as necessary.
Improving the look of the front of your house can be a big job if it has been neglected for a while. But, it will pay off if you are selling your home or if you bought a new place and want to add that something special. Plan out your projects and break them up into different weekends if necessary to keep tasks manageable.
